When I was younger I wanted to learn music and dance,
But why did I miss that chance?
Why my only goal was to mug up for exams?
Why did I realise so late that those marks didn't carry any meaning?
Maybe because of the people around me whom I kept hearing
Those are the people who we are supposed to blindly trust
Dear parents, teachers and society, why were you so unjust?
Why do you pressurise a child to excel in studies since class first?
Imagine a childhood surrounded only by textbooks
Because many other important aspects the adults seemed to overlook
In home as well as school, the needs of the child being ignored,
Everyone only concerned about how much the child scored.
When no one is even ready to change their outlook,
Then who will account for that lost childhood?
Such a sweet poem, presenting regrets in a beautiful way. I think many parents hurry their child along without realizing there should be time for simple play in childhood, without the activity having to be educational.
